Sumatra Cross Road

The Sumatra Cross Road was decided to be built in 1965 during the era of President Soekarno. The construction of the Sumatra Cross Road which was considered a huge national project at that time was carried out along 2,400 kilometers and divided into eight projects and completed within 10 years. In the Lampung area itself, the development of a 240-kilometer Sumatra highway was built, with large-scale industries, such as textiles, on the left side of the road being established with cotton plantations, sawmills, factories and so on. As for the right side of the road, a modern transmigration area with rice fields and modern villages were built. Construction of the Sumatra Cross Road in Lampung codenamed "Operation Rajabasa" successfully opened a road of 5 km along the mountainous area.

Now there are 4 main roads on the island of Sumatra, namely Jalan Raya Lintas Barat (Jalinbar), Jalan Lintas Lintas Tengah (Jalinteng), Jalan Lintas Lintas Timur (Jalintim), and Jalan Raya Lintas Timur Pantai. This highway connects from Aceh to Lampung.
