Mohammad Taufik Kiemas Airport is a special airport that functions in addition to navigation and natural disaster mitigation purposes, it can also function as a public airport that is expected to be able to encourage the development of the mainstay area of Liwa-Krui as a new economic growth center in the western corridor of Sumatra Island. The determination of the location of Muhammad Taufik Kiemas Airport was carried out based on the decision of the Republic of Indonesia Minister of Transportation No. KP 475/09 of 2009 concerning the establishment of a new airport location in Pekon Serai, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.
Based on the Decree of the Minister of Transportation KP 811 of 2016 Airport Serai Pekon located in the Pesisir Tengah, Pesisir Barat (Pesbar), Lampung officially changed its name to the Airport of Mohammad Taufik Kiemas. Changes to the name of the airport in the district nicknamed Negeri Para Saibatin and Ulama, are proposals from the Pesbar Regency Government. Considering the background of Taufiq Kiemas's history which is known to come from Pulau Pisang District. The airport name change is one of the programs of the Lampung Provincial Government this year and also one of the efforts of the local Transportation Agency to continue to improve the quality and quality of services available at the Airport. And in the next stage, besides the Susi Air plane, there will be other airlines using the airport.
